Joseph A . Militello

The one stop place for masterful engineering.

I am Joseph Militello. I have always been interested in engineering, developing products, and tinkering around. I am knowledgeable with hardware and software applications. I have experience with high powered systems, analog circuitry, digital circuitry, embedded systems, and both low and high level programming. Please feel free to contact me via my LinkedIn Profile.

Projects

Fun Face Cam
I worked on a simple BeagleBone project that allows the user to take a picture and add a mustache, hat, or sunglasses to their face. Click here for more details.

LED Cube
I also built a 4x4x4 led cube. The led cube had a coin acceptor attached to it on the side. The user would pay a quarter, select a led show, and watch the LED show on the cube.

Python to VHDL
There is a function in Simulink that converts a circuit into VHDL. A company has asked my team to see if Python could be used instead. The attempt is to find a way to take Python and successfully convert it to VHDL. Using an open source tool, I was able to create a program and GUI that allowed users to take Python code and convert it to VHDL and Verilog.

JoJo
At the end of high school (when I was a lot younger), I attempted to make a small fun animatronic. Using an Arduino, servo motors, and a few sensors, I tried to make the animatronic react to people. I hope to come back to this project an improve it. Click here for a video.

Interests

Roller Coasters
I have always been interested in theme parks and roller coasters. I have gone to an extensive number of amusement and theme parks around the country.

Astronomy
The cosmos, the stars, and the constellations are an interest of mine. Serving as Astronomy Club President for two terms, I was able to have access the Oakley Observatory at Rose-Hulman and use the telescopes there. I still occasionally enjoy looking at the night sky.

Cooking
I enjoy cooking and trying new recipies. I sometimes bring in treats to friends and coworkers to show off new recipies.

Art
I have dabbled in watercolor painting. I am no Bob Ross, but I do enjoy creating my own mini-masterpieces. Additionally, I like tinkering with Unity, a video game development platform. Unity might not traditionally be considered art, but it certainly requires creativity. I enjoy getting the 3D models and the code to work well together.
